From the vibrant blue waters of the Maldives to the rocky cliffs of Portugal’s Algarve region, this list has a little something for every type of beachgoer. As an experienced travel writer and social media influencer, I’ll provide my insider tips on when to visit, must-do activities, and the best photo ops at each stunning coastal destination. Grab your swimsuit, sunscreen, and camera – this beach trip is going to rack up some serious likes!

Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia

Bondi Beach is one of Australia’s most famous beaches, with its sweeping crescent shape and city views. The two-kilometer long beach gets busy, so come early to find a good spot. Take photos at both ends – the colorful bathing boxes or dramatic cliffs. Enjoy an Aussie classic – fish and chips at sunset.

With its sweeping crescent-shaped shoreline and proximity to Sydney’s urban center, Bondi Beach racks up over 2.5 million Instagram posts and counting. As an Australian native, Bondi has a special place in my heart as one of our country’s most iconic beaches. I’ve visited Bondi in every season, but nothing beats an Australian summer when the weather is warm, surfers flock to the waves, and the golden sand is dotted with sunbathers.

Lanikai Beach, Oahu, Hawaii

Lanikai Beach has such vivid blue-green waters that it looks like a postcard! Two small islands offshore frame the calm waters and soft white sand. Visit on a weekday to avoid crowds and catch the best golden hour light. The view from the Lanikai Pillbox Trail is epic for photos above the twin islands.

To avoid crowds, I’d recommend going on a weekday or early morning. While weekends draw locals and visitors alike, early birds can catch golden hour with fewer people in their background. 

Kelingking Beach, Bali, Indonesia

The steep hike down to Kelingking Beach is so worth it for the incredible views you can only see here! This hidden beach looks like a T-Rex and has bright blue waters below tall cliffs. Wear good shoes, bring water, and take your wide-angle camera lens. Start early before it gets too hot and crowded.

The journey is part of the experience, as you’ll need to trek down a steep pathway with incredible coastal views around every turn. Be prepared with good footwear, plenty of water, and your wide-angle camera lens. Despite its challenging access, Kelingking is still quite popular. Start your hike early to avoid both crowds and the midday heat. 

The Baths, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

The unique landscape of the Baths on Virgin Gorda has become one of the British Virgin Island’s top attractions. This collection of weathered granite boulders forms a series of grottoes with ladders of white sand pools throughout. During my week-long sailing trip in the BVIs, exploring and photographing the various rock formations and caves was a highlight.

While busy with cruise visitors during peak hours, early mornings provide fewer crowds and better light. Pack water shoes and be prepared to get wet as you climb over and under boulders, wade through waist-deep pools, and squeeze into narrow caverns. For the perfect shot, head to Devil’s Bay at sunrise or late afternoon golden hour. You’ll capture all the textures and colors that have made this beach an Instagram favorite.

Pink Sands Beach, Harbour Island, Bahamas

While I’ve photographed my fair share of stunning blue waters and white sand beaches, Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island offers a unique perspective. As the name suggests, the powdery sand shimmers with a pale pink hue – the result of finely crushed coral mixed with the white calcium carbonate sand. I added Harbour Island to my Bahamas itinerary specifically for a chance to see this rare natural phenomenon.

The three-mile long beach is best seen in morning or late afternoon light when the rosy tones really come alive. Take the iconic Instagram shot from the viewpoint atop the Dunmore Town lighthouse looking down endless pink shores and azure waters. For a truly special experience, I’d recommend staying at the Coral Sands Hotel right on Pink Sands Beach. The pastel-hued resort completes this colorful Caribbean dream!

Navagio Beach, Zakynthos, Greece

Greece’s Ionian Islands are renowned for their beautiful beaches, but none so dramatically as Navagio Beach (or Shipwreck Beach) on Zakynthos. The secluded cove is home to the rusting hulk of a 1980’s smuggling ship, the Panagiotis, that ran aground in a storm and still rests half-buried in the white sand. This striking scene contrasted against vibrant blue waters and sheer limestone cliffs makes Navagio Beach arguably Greece’s most photographed location.

Due to the beach’s isolated position, viewing requires a boat trip or scenic hike to an overlook some 200 meters above. While crowded in high season, I’d recommend visiting in May or September for warmer weather with fewer tourists. Don’t miss seeing this legendary landmark from both vantage points – above and below! Capturing the perfect sun-drenched shot of the shipwreck and turquoise sea will be a priceless addition to your Instagram portfolio.

Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda

As an island nation in the North Atlantic Ocean, Bermuda boasts some of the world’s most stunning pink and white sand beaches. The most iconic among them is Horseshoe Bay with its perfect crescent shape framed by Bermuda’s signature pastel homes. As one of Bermuda’s most popular beaches, the bay gets busy so early arrival is key for both lounge chairs and photos sans crowds.

While scenic any time of day, late afternoon is optimal for capturing vibrant turquoise waters and snorkelers exploring offshore reefs. The rugged coastal views along South Shore Park at sunset make a spectacular backdrop as well. Due to Bermuda’s remote location in the Atlantic, flights here can be pricey. But this island paradise and its beautiful beaches are well worth the travel cost for gorgeous and unique Instagram backdrops.

Elafonissi Beach, Crete, Greece

Located on the southwest coast of Crete, Elafonissi Beach is renowned for its vibrant coral pink and white sand beaches separated by crystalline turquoise waters. This rare geological phenomenon occurs when powdery white sand mixes with crushed seashells and coral fragments washed ashore. I added the remote Elafonissi region to my itinerary during my trip around Crete specifically to capture this unusual colorful landscape.

The protected coves and shallow lagoons create a perfect environment for families and those seeking a more relaxed beach experience. While stunning any time of day, late afternoon light makes the pastel tones of sand and sea truly pop. Due to its remote location, renting a car is required to reach Elafonissi. After exploring the beach, don’t miss capturing the coastal sunsets along the scenic drive back to Chania town. This magical beach is a must-see and must-photograph for any trip to Crete!

Eagle Beach, Aruba

Consistently ranked among the Caribbean’s top beaches, Aruba’s Eagle Beach boasts over two miles of powdery white sand, tranquil turquoise waters, and swaying divi divi trees. This iconic tropical landscape has earned Eagle Beach a spot among the most Instagrammed beaches in the world. As an avid Caribbean traveler, I’ve explored countless stunning beaches. But vibrant Aruba remains one of my all-time favorites.
